ABOUT LADDERS AND STEPLADDERS:

Bridge House Ladders Thrift shares 16 Main Street with American Legion Post 66 and exists to support the Bridge House Shelter and Veterans' Advocacy.

In 2020, Bridge House Ladders Thrift expanded across the street and added StepLadders. This additional building made room for a much larger tech selection, books, movies, outdoor gear. Moving some departments to StepLadders left more space for improved clothing and fine home goods in the original building. We were also able to incorporate a beautiful meeting space in StepLadders for The Workshop.

The Workshop hosts community activities and classes such as meditation, tai chi, crafts, and life skills. Follow us on Facebook and watch for new classes to be posted frequently.

How the Bridge House Ladders Thrift story started:

In December 2013, the Bridge House received a generous, capacity-building donation from a private foundation. This donation provided essential seed money, allowing the Bridge House to launch Ladders Thrift - a retail shop. The thrift store is designed to provide a sustainable source of funding for ongoing operational needs and programming. The Bridge House's commitment to serving veterans resulted in a unique strategic partnership between the shelter and American Legion Post. The veterans operating the post needed help updating their property and meeting space for veterans. The Bridge House needed a retail location that would attract donors and customers, and provide a place for vets in residence at the shelter to gather together with other vets.

In the true spirit of Yankee thrift and small-town collaboration, both organizations and the individuals, families, and veterans they serve will continue to benefit from this initiative. If you would like to help the Bridge House with a cash donation, you can donate here.

Ladders' Mission:

  1. The shop provides critically needed revenue to maintain the mission of the Bridge House Shelter and Veterans' Advocacy.
  2. It serves as the training site for the employee skill-building basics series, Excellence in Customer Service.
  3. The American Legion room serves as a meeting site for all veterans and as a support and resource center for veterans at risk. Veterans, their families, and friends will be welcomed and connected to resources and services.
